My 28mm Winter War Finns

This is the army I use with Nuts! A WWII skirmish game with a small RPG component that I enjoy. The army has evolved over the last year or so. Mostly because I keep discovering new figures I just have to have. Most are 3D printed as there are very few 28mm Winter War figures out there.

Note: The figures seem to photograph better when you limit the to 5-6 figs, so some of the squads have been split in two.

First we have our star, who I have given the nickname of “Metsän Kauhu” (Forest Horror). He is modeled somewhat after Finnish captain Aarne Juutilainen, known as Marokon kauhu" (The Terror of Morocco), from his service in the French Foreign Legion before the war. One of his squad members is modeled after Aatami Korpi from the movie “Sisu.”

Several of the squads are named after characters from tow Finnish war movies. The rest are based on people I know or were just made-up names.  I tried to give them the same weapon they carried in the movie whenever possible, whil still keeping it within the game army lists. I also tried to give them a "Reputation'' based on their movie characters and how they performed; again while keeping it within the game perameters.

The descriptions provide information that is used in the game. The Kauhu’s Star squad does not list their “Rep” (Reputation) as that change over the course of the campaign. The other squads (known as “Non-player” squads as they are mostly controlled by the game mechanics) do not change, even if killed or wounded.

First - we have The Kauhu's squad

Here we have my "Company" (the term is used loosely) headquarters

These figures are just for fun, because they're just so cool!

These two squads make up Kantola's half-platoon and are from the movie, "Talvisota." (Winter War)

These two squads plus the machinegun group make up Koskela's half-platoon and are from the movie "Tuntematon Sotilas" (The Unknow Soldier).

The followingtwo photos make up Kariluoto's 10 man squad and are from the same movie

These guys get their name from the film Sissi - which I have never seen

And finally we have the "Irregulars" so called because they are the only figs not in winter cammo (though they do have overcoats)
